Every great sports team has a famous mascot which plays the role of the encourager or the inspiration. Every sexy car has a sexy girl standing beside it to show it's sex appeal. Every Brand as an identity to give it a personality and a meaning. So why not have a mascot for a genre of music? My answer- because no intellectual mind has thought of the idea... until now!

I considered what exactly Kwaicore is. It is the combination of two genres which are widely opposite, and this combination creates a unique genre which is both outrageous and awesome all at the same time. So i decided that my Kwaicore mascot needs to be exactly that.

I found an image that is exactly what I need. It is a Guinea pig and a Lion (Aka a Guinea-Lion). This is the official Kwaicore Mascot. His name is Kwainea. I hope you all love him as much as I do!

This girl has the right idea

Starting form the young age of only 8 years, this little music fanatic has the right idea. i have uploaded a video of her first ever hardcore song. I personally wish i started as young as her, and i hope that we see a Kwaicore video in the near future.

As the avid Kwaicore fan that i have become in the last few weeks, i have started appreciating different and weird styles of music. i have been listening to very strange genres such as:

• Political Hip-Hop
• Choral Music
• Chill (aka Chill Out)
• Indian Classical Music
• Speed Metal
• Avante-garde Metal
• Hoomii

Out of these Genres, the strangest and most interesting one has to be Hoomii. This is a genre of music known as Mongolian throat singing. This type of singing is entirely different to that of normal vocals in all songs that we know today. I have uploaded a video for your enjoyment.

Just like Justin has his Beliebers, Kwaicore artists have Kwaicoreans. I am quite proud to say that I am a true Kwaicorean myself, so in the spirit of this, I have created a guide of how to dress, act and feel like a kwaicorean with me.

The Headspace

Firstly, you need to get into the correct Kwaicore headspace. This includes listening to lots of Kwaito music such as Mandoza, Dj Mujava, Zola, Mapaputzi, TKZee and Boom Shaka. This will put you into a happy, groovy mood and will hopefully get those bums shaking and those feet skipping. Then you need to follow this by listening to a wide range of hardcore music from artists such as Disturbed, Nofx, Bullet for my Valentine, Slipknot and any other heavy Screamo music that makes your head starts banging and your first and fourth finger go up in the air like your in the front row at a rock concert.

The combination of this being a bum wiggling, head banging movement that makes you look like an owl on steroids (aka a Kwairoid owl). The picture below indicates how you should be feeling at this point of you Kwaicore transformation.

The Suit up

Now to suit up- Get yourself some grungy boots, a cute dress with an African print on and maybe a hairdo to match.  Throw on some bright coloured eye shadow, some dark eyeliner and some hooker lipstick. This being the predicted outcome…

Great Kwaicore News...

Great Kwaicore News!!!

I just found out some spectacular news. One of the biggest artists in the world right now is going to be taking on the challenge of writing and perform a Kwaicore song. No matter if you like him or not, you have to appreciate how quickly he managed to make it in the music business. 

This guy is none other than Justin Bieber. He has announced that after hearing about this awesome Kwaito and Hardcore Blend, he will attempt to perform a Kwaicore song on his next Tour, which happens to include his tour to South Africa. So hold on to your panties girls, and experience Justin Bieber's take on Kwaicore music.

Nothing is real without a brand identity and logo, so with that i have inserted an image of the official KWAICORE logo. It encompasses all that Kwaito and Hardcore share, and is the perfect example of these two genres merged together.

Kwaicore can be seen in the same box as many other subgenres. These include the black metal subgenre, the heavy metal subgenres, subgenres of rock and also punk subgenres. For those people like me who don’t usually spend their afternoons with their headphones which are way too large for the head to earphone ratio blaring in their ears to the above genres, hope is on the horizon!

Listening to Kwaicore is like the first lick of a freezing lolly on the first day of summer – as the saliva melts the ice, the flavour becomes more intense and your tongue no longer sticks to it.  The longer you listen to the music, the more the uncontrollable motion of your right foot taping becomes enjoyable.

A long, long time ago, I can still remember, how that music used to make me smile…

Okay so that’s American Pie, but you get the idea.

There was an outburst of music in the 1990’s in South Africa, where mainly Black artists used slowed down elements of the Euro-House music genre to create a new funky music genre now known as Kwaito. Meanwhile in America, many bands were already busy forming another music genre which today is known as Hardcore music (AKA Screamo). This genre developed out of punk-rock music, and by the 1990’s was already taking the country by storm.

Today however, in 2013, an intelligent dude from Cape Town wondered what a combination of these two genres would sound like. He had a major Brain Fart, and with the following “Poof” the creation of KWAICORE was born. I would just like to personally thank this guy for the greatest invention since that of Music itself.

I have written this blog as a tribute to my love of music, and I am certain you are reading it for a similar one. Having studied music for 2 years, many of my mates tried to introduce me to this head-banging, mind-splitting sound which they called Hardcore music. Being the more lyrical content lover as I am, I was never quite swayed, until now. I finally came across a small yet majorly significant subgenre which is known as Kwaicore. Now if anyone knows a little about Kwaito music, I am sure it must be hard to imagine this trendy, funky and groovy beat being combined with the Hardcore scene. Well this blog is a short yet spectacularly life- changing look into this unknown realm about Kwaicore music.
